“Listen to me, O house of Jacob,
all you who remain of the house of Israel,
you whom I have upheld since you were conceived,
and have carried since your birth.
4 Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

The Holy Bible: New International Version. 1984 (Isaiah 46:3–4). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.

There is truth to the adage that as you get older you have less “energy.”  That usually means you can’t work as long and as hard. But the energy is problem is bigger than that. I probably could have done with less energy in my younger days when I was too easily bored and loooked for trouble.

Lately, I don’t want to work as long or as hard or as passionately. It’s good that I don’t get easily angered. I’m more patient. But, I have less passion in general. I have less confidence in myself and more confidence in the reign of evil to prevail. Cynicism. Less idealism, but also less faith.

The goal is to have renewed passion along with a realistic understanding of the foes. Less confidence in myself and more confidence in the team – the body of Christ.
