Foolish Pride

One day, after an afternoon of kayaking at Spring Lake, I was pushing my kayak up to the rack on top of my van. My arms were trembling from the hours of exercise and the kayak weighed more from the water inside. I positioned one end on the front part of the rack and began to lift the other end up. But, the front end slid off the rack and started sliding back down. All I could do was catch it and hold it in place for a few seconds while I re-gathered myself. A man saw my struggle and  rushed over to help. What did I say? “I’ve got this.” I quickly pushed the kayak up slowly and positioned it on the rack. All by myself. I did it!

My back suffered the next week because of my foolishness.

Not recognizing our moral need – our sin and depravity is like this.
How foolish is it when we say to God, “I’ve got this. I don’t need your grace.”

“By grace we are saved, through faith…not of works so no one can boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9
