There is a “new” New International Version Bible. It’s actually a convergence of the old NIV and the TNIV (Today’s New International Version).

Confused? Well, this new NIV is meant to end the confusion as all new NIV Bibles will be the new 2011 version and the TNIV will be taken off the market. If you’re familiar with the NIV, you won’t notice much difference. The main area of difference has to do with gender inclusion. Where it is clear that the original author intended to include women and men, the new NIV translates it that way. The former NIV usually stayed with the safer “men” or male pronouns, like “he” and “him.” In this sense, the new NIV is more accurate, since it better conveys the biblical author’s intent in today’s language.

Here is an example of the difference:

The NIV, originally introduced in 1984, rapidly became the world’s most read modern English Bible with more than 400 million copies in print. When you go to the bookstore to buy an NIV Bible, it should be the 2011 version.
